From
the soothing sound of the Mokihinui River to our
famously comfortable beds, you'll experience the
relaxation you deserve in Rough and Tumble Bush
Lodge's beautifully appointed guest rooms. The
five rooms, each named after a Mokihinui River
gold mine from the 1870s, feature ensuite bathrooms,
handcrafted finishing touches, and sweeping views
of the Glasgow Range.
You'll
be pampered after a day of activity, with organic
shampoo and conditioner, home made soap, plentiful
hot water provided by solar panels and an electric
booster, gas heating, double glazing and insect-screened
windows (while sandflies are an important part
of the ecosystem, we prefer not to sleep with
them!).

Each guest room accommodates
up to four people, with beds configured
as kings or two singles both downstairs
and upstairs in our trademark 'bird's-eye
view' lofts. They're great for groups or
families ... although you may have to compete
for first dibs on the lofts.
The views out the large
picture windows take you through magnificent
virgin native bush terraces up the flanks
of the Glasgow Range to the rocky tussock
tops, 1,500 metres above. You'll have a
birds-eye view of massive ancient rata trees,
and of an uninterrupted night sky.
You may well come eye-to-eye
with a bellbird or tui, as it flits from
rata blossoms to kamahi. At night, leave
the window open and listen to the distinctive
call of the morepork (native owl).
As in the main lodge,
the guest rooms feature handcrafted trim
and furniture made from native timber (kahikatea,
red beech, hinau, rata) milled onsite and
crafted to give each room its own warm,
welcoming personality.
While the rooms are a
peaceful haven, you may wish to grab a cuppa
and watch the world (and the wekas) go by
from the long, insect-screened porch outside
your door. It's a great place to relax and
catch some afternoon sun.
