Rough and Tumble's main lodge is the gathering place for guests, for dining, relaxing in a quiet nook upstairs, or socialising by the fireplace. Epitomising 'rustic elegance,' with its exposed beams, cathedral ceilings and handcrafted stone fireplace the lodge has a huge deck and wall of windows overlooking a bend in the mighty Mokihinui River. On a rainy West Coast day, one can snuggle in front of the fire, watching the river's moods change.

The kitchen, dining and gathering area has been created to cater to up to 20 people comfortably. Our massive red beech dining tables were milled and made on-site. Guests can help themselves to hot drinks, while, during the high season, we will keep the cold ones flowing (pending liquor license in early 2015).

Up the ship's ladder, loft spaces provide a bird's eye view of the river and a cozy place to snuggle in, play chess, or upload your GoPro video.

We're on the West Coast and our guests often arrive in need of a de-mudding - yes, we do have a coin operated washing machine and dryer!

Welcome to Rough and Tumble!
