To
fully enjoy and explore the northwest corner of
the South Island, we recommend you stay at least
two nights. One of our guests' favourite activities
is walking the renowned Charming Creek Walkway
... a stunning, easy 3-4 hour walk, and we can
assist with transportation to ensure you enjoy
its full length.
For
guests who can spend three nights with us, we
recommend a visit to the Karamea area, 45 minutes
north and truly the end of the road. There, you
can walk in a short way to one of the finest beaches
on the Heaphy Track (one of New Zealand's famous
Great Walks), and explore the fascinating limestone
arches and caves systems of the Oparara Basin.
Within
a short scenic drive:
 |
- Hike, run or bike the
Charming Creek Walkway from either end;
- Take a day trip to
Karamea. Visit the Oparara Arches and
walk an hour into the Heaphy Track for
a picnic on Scotts Beach;
- Explore the historic
Denniston plateau, rich in relics, burning
mines and mountain biking & four wheel
driving opportunities;
|
 |
- Find a possie and whitebait
some of the Coast's most famous rivers.
- Drive or bike
to the the Mokihinui rivermouth, visit
the shipwreck, fossick for driftwood and
walk the beach - usually empty for miles
on end.
